Heating and Cooling Times

Heating times may vary depending on geography, climate, plumbing and other factors. Some designs, particularly those containing black or dark colors may require less time to heat. If graphics become distorted, a reduction in heat time may be needed. When using a MiniSTAR® machine, on occasion, some air may escape from the chamber when cooling. This should not affect the fabrication process or efficacy of the appliance. Below are suggested average heating times in seconds.

Polishing

Dentagrafix does not recommend buffing the finished retainer. From a finishing perspective, we recommend doing a rough cut to remove the retainer from the model with either a rotary cutting disk (i.e. a dremel tool), dental bur, or rough cutting with shears. After carefully prying the retainer off the model, we suggest using a pair of crown and bridge scissors (curved scissors) to do your final trim leaving roughly 1mm of material covering the gingiva. The scissors can sometimes leave a crisp cut edge to the retainer, in which case we recommend using a felt wheel to soften the edges of the retainer.
